A word on Emotional Intelligence

Happened to read the ground breaking New York Times best seller “Emotional Intelligence”. According to the author “Daniel Goleman” emotional intelligence can matter more than intelligence quotient.

What is emotional intelligence?
Dan has given a good definition for that indirectly by quoting Aristotle’s lines.

“Any one can become angry -- that is easy. But to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way – this is not easy. “

I really admire Dan’s narrative style on this psychological subject. He started it with the human’s mechanism of emotions and adrenaline flow. Even it’s not very important to understand the real core of the book it was good to start with that.

I feel he has given loyalty to his book as he is trying to attract reader’s attention to the important subjects like handling anger and temperament As he is presenting the whole scientifically this may not be advisable for casual leaders.

Then one thing I can not avoid telling you. He tries to make us believe he is presenting something new, when in fact much of what he is reporting has been studied for years under personality research. So the readers who already have some kind of knowledge about EI can get irritated at times.

Also, even though he uses terms such as emotional literacy, emotional health, emotional skill, and emotional competency he never defines any of these other terms, but he equates them all to emotional intelligence.

After all It’s a worth reading book to get at least an overview of the all concept.

The Asian Partiality

It’s again about the subcontinent’s popular game…
Don’t misunderstand that I am too much sensitive about cricket..
You would have seen the play cards in any cricket match… that..
“Cricket is our religion & Sachin is our god”
To some extent it’s extremely correct.
The subcontinent has that much importance to the game & it’s a part of life here.

The latest news about cricket … you would have read in the head lines..
Yes.. Engalnd is awarded a test win on behalf of Pakistan’s ball tampering allegation.
But can’t you think a little bit bolder…
Why all the time the subcontinent teams are being a prey?
Why “Darrel Heir” is always targeting the subcontinent teams..?
Yeah... We should think about it..

There were lot of controversies about bowling actions of Mutiah Muraleetharan, Harbajan Sing, Shoib Akthar & Shabir Ahmed..
Why it is not happening against.. Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, Darren Gough or even for Paul Adams?
Why Darrel Heir is always targeting the Asian country cricketers?
Even if don’t want to tell that.. But truth lies some where in the skin color..?

There can be questions about Pak’s protest …
But still why the umpires made a decision to fine 5 runs against Pak with out proving the allegation of ball tampering...?
Yes… its skin deep.. Its skin color..?
It has become customary ICC to blame for Asian cricketers and Boards of this countries are salient spectators, it is humiliation on part of ICC to forfeit the match

Business of the subcontinent

While I was reading about the Unitech cricket series which is scheduled to be held these days in Srilanka , the first thing came to mind is the courage of Indian players.

They were ready to stay in Srilanka & play Cricket even though there are lot of security breaches and concerns. The South African team pulled out from the series earlier because they were very much concerned about life than cricket.

Yes, every Indian should be proud about the decision of India not to pull out from the series. Indians are brave and courageous and terror attacks are not new to them.

Aha.. This is the sunny side of the matter…..

……………………………………………..

But what is the truth?
Yes.. that’s it..
Indians can not pull out from the series as easily as the South Africans..
Reason is very simple & clear..
Its business than any sports in this Indian subcontinent..
BCCI can not think of loosing the money by pulling out from the series..
Who cares about the security..
Even though one entire team vanishes with a terror attack they can build a new team with in a few days..
We have lot of reserve players in bench..
It is not important to win the game..
The importance goes in participating the challenge..
Ha ha … enjoy the greatness of the sportsman spirit…
Yes, Even players will not have a different opinion on pulling out from the series..
Because its money.. The match fee.

So can any body tell….Whose decision is correct ?
The South Africans or the Indians?
Is it bravery or money?
It’s a tough question, Doesn’t it?

A Rubber Stamp President

Today’s head lines tell a sad story of the supreme commander of a powerful nation.
Yes that’s the power of democracy. The world’s largest democratic country teaches it.

Indian President Mr. APJ Abdul Kalam clears the office of profit bill.
Yes, he has no other way than accepting the same. What a pity on the supreme commander?

While returning the bill first time when it is sent for his acceptance, he expressed his concern over the lack of “unambiguous” definition of office of profit and wanted it applied across all the states and the union territories. But, what to do?
When it is passed by the parliament with out any change in the previous form, our poor President has no other way than accepting it.

But I have a doubt on this…
Why do we need a president with out any powers?
In the papers he is the supreme commander of the entire nation.
But the supreme commander does not have enough power to reject even a bill.
Yes, I agree…
This is a democratic nation and it is rules by the people for the people.
If people accept any thing no body can change it..
People are the supreme power.
But the question is why do we need such a powerless post of president?
It’s funny to hear that he occupies the largest building in the world which is used for accommodation alone.

The Sabarimala Shrine & some controversies

Within hours after the Supreme Court asked for explanation about the ban on women at the Sabarimala shrine the Kerala Govt. has decided to remove the ban.
This seems to be very interesting. Govt. tells they are backing equal status for men and women and was not opposed to women visiting the shrine.

But what is the actual reason?
It is simple they do not have a reason for the ban.

The traditional followers of Sabarimal Ayyappan will be cursing telugu actress “Jayamala” now. Yes. She is the one who started the show.
Even though nobody knows about the truth behind her blabbering , it is true that it created lot of smokes & fire. Finally, the release of ban also.

Definitely they have all right to curse Jayamala.
But I have a few questions to them?

What is the problem if women visit the shrine?
Yes. I can expect one answer.
It will be about the 41 days penance & women can’t take those many days penance because of natural reasons.
Ok.. It leads to more questions..
How many men are taking this 41 days penance before going to the shrine?
Why women are considered as dirty in their mensestral period?
I know you will not have any answer.
Finally you will tell…
It’s BELIEF & TRADITION.
I will not leave you.
Beliefs and Traditions may not be good.
“SATHI” was also a tradition.
Do you feel that “SATHI” is a good thing to follow?

Any body have an answer ?
I am ready to ask more questions…

The Cola War!!

Do colas really contain pesticides?
If they do, is it under the permitted limit?
Why the multi national brands are only banned?
Are the authorities playing a trick to eradicate the multi national giants from Indian soil?
Do they really can do that under the norms of GATT?
Why CSE is not conducting any tests on liquors?
Why the Govt. is not banning cigarettes & liquors?
Does the Govt. have a right to tell , “have this cola & not the other one”?

Every body will have these kinds of questions in mind if you read the news papers a few weeks back. But to whom we will ask? Who will answer to these questions?

Like every body else I am also helpless on this matter.
But the ultimate fact lies underneath.
Lot of people are going to be jobless.
If the Coke & Pepsi plants are closed… what is the future of those employees?
Nobody will have an answer..
But every body can ask a counter question.
There are people who live with banned narcotic business.

Questions & counter questions…
Nobody has an answer..
I also feel pity on myself..

“Davinci Code”: The settle down!!

I wonder why there is no protest against the second schedule of “Davincy Code” movie release.
Is it the wisdom that no way fighting with the judiciary?
Or is it the awareness that all show is over?
Or is it the knowledge that they have given over importance.

I believe no much people would hear about the film or the novel if the church & Christian organizations wouldn’t have done any protests on the film.

Being a Christian , even I didn’t feel any thing bad about the novel when I read it in last year. On the contrary, I was very much impressed with Dan’s narrative skills. I feel his sandwich technique of clubbing history & fiction made these much controversy. It’s the reader’s discrimination to distinguish between history & fiction. But the real funny side of the show is … even in any of the western Christian countries, there was no controversy about the novel but at the same time it remained in the best sellers list for a long time. Also I dont think "Davincy Code" is as good as "Angels & Demons".

So what is wrong with us?
Being a secular country… we could have avoided this controversy.
We should not forget about the freedom of expression according to our constituency.
Yes ! I agree..
Freedom of expression doesn’t mean that you can write what ever you want.
Be we should have the wisdom to see which is right & which is wrong.
It should not be emotions which lead you… but prudence.

Church's Vote Bank Politics

A few days back there was a news in CNN-IBN which reveals Church's vote bank politics.
The highlights of the article are....
"The Catholic Church in Kerala has called upon its followers to have more babies; if they are economically well off. The Christian community is powerful in the state and contributes to 20 per cent of the vote bank. Not surprisingly, there is a huge political angle to the Bishop's call and Church goers are aware of it. When RSS Chief KS Sudarshan had called upon Hindus to have at least three children, last year, it lead to a huge uproar across the country. Cardinal Vithayathil's statements are also likely to spark off a debate.".... etc...

I am surprised after hearing this being a Christian..
I do not know where our country is heading up.
Even religion communities are selfish about their political future.
Oops !!!
I recollect controversial comments made by former chief minister of Kerala Mr. A.K. Antony at this time. It was about the minority community's pressuring attitude.

We will wait & see…

What else is there waiting in pavilion with all these community leaders?

Kindergarten of Terrorism

This is my first Blog..
So let it be some thing serious...
Oops !!!
What is serious now a day to all..?
Its something debatable..

Any way.. I feel...
Now a days all are worried about security of life..
"Terrorism"
It’s a global phenomenon all over.
What we can do on that???
Its also some thing debatable..

At this point of time, I recollect the actions taken by the Govt. of India to ban "BLOGS".
Looks to be funny...
But that’s the way authorities are thinking..
So.. The problem is with us...
We are losing focus on the real issue..
We are not thinking solution oriented..
We are thinking only problem oriented..

Think India ...
Think Britain...
Think Unite States...
Think world ...

Where did you lose?
Where did you slip?

There is a simple line in BIBLE.. I recollect now..
It’s telling a simple point... “Who ever is taking the sword ... he will be finished with that"..

That’s what happened to United States...Britain... even India...
Who gave armory to Saddam..?
Who is responsible to the growth of Laden..?
Who gave privileges to LTTE?

Its you nothing but you..
So the reason is clear...
Its crystal clear..
But still ....why do you repeat mistakes..?

Think India ...
Think Britain...
Think Unite States...
Think world...
